Taco Potion No. 19

Why number 19? because there were 18 formulas before that didn't quite reach Alton Brown's fine fiesta standards. I've been using this recipe for years and haven't modified it from Alton's original. Well, now it's time. I split the 2/3 cup of beef stock and added 1/3 cup of red enchilada sauce and the result is incredible!

Ingredients

Birria Tacos

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2/3 cup beef stock or 1/3 cup beef stock and 1/3 cup red enchilada sauce

Other stuff:

  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
  • 1 Lb ground beef - Alton Brown says to use ground sirloin

What to do with the ingredients...

  1. Combine all the dry ingredients above in a container and shake well.
  2. Chop the onion and dice the garlic and mix them together
  3. Use 2 tbsp peanut oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add chopped onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, then add two cloves of fresh minced garlic and 1 lb ground beef. Heat 3 to 5 minutes until meat is browned.
  5. Add the entire dose of taco mix 19 and mix well.
  6. Next, add 2/3 cup beef broth and bring to a simmer for about  2 to 3 minutes until the liquid thickens.
