From Fit Foodie Finds with only one minor edit, please don't preheat the oven. The bacon cooks slowly as the oven heats and turns out nice and crispy if left in awhile, or nice and chewy if pulled just a minute or two sooner. If it's getting very brown it's getting crispy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. bacon, nitrate-free if possible (any thickness)
Instructions
- Do not preheat the oven - As the oven comes to temperature, it slowly renders out the fat leaving behind sizzling, ultra-crispy bacon.
- Place foil on a metal baking sheet and put the baking rack on top and set aside.
- Remove bacon from the package and place bacon strips side by side on the baking rack. Make sure that the strips are not overlapping. It's okay if they touch because they will shrink while baking.
- Put the bacon in the oven, set it to 400ºF and cook using the following time guidelines:
- Thin-cut bacon: bake for 10-15 minutes.
- Medium-cut bacon: bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Thick-cut bacon: bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Once the bacon is at its desired texture, remove it from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before transferring it to a paper towel-lined plate. Use more paper towels to remove excess bacon grease.
